Who We Are

At the Calgary Black Seniors Foundation (CBSF), we are a community-driven organization dedicated to enhancing the well-being of Black seniors, newcomers, and youth in Calgary. Formed in June 2024, CBSF was born from the vision of immigrant women who, recognizing the unique challenges faced by the Black population, asked themselves, “How can we help?” Our mission is to address the systemic issues of social isolation, health disparities, financial instability, and cultural disconnect, while fostering empowerment, education, and integration through culturally appropriate programs.

Our services focus on Black seniors, immigrant communities, and youth, providing critical support in areas like poverty alleviation, mental health, education, spirituality, and empowerment. We believe in preserving cultural heritage and ensuring that the voices of those we serve are not only heard but valued. Through our network of dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners, we seek to create an inclusive and supportive community where everyone, especially vulnerable groups, can live dignified, fulfilling lives.

At CBSF, we are more than a support organization — we are a bridge to resources, a hub for intergenerational connection, and a strong advocate for the well-being of Black seniors, immigrants, and youths as they navigate the challenges of life in Canada. Whether by helping seniors reconnect with their roots, offering newcomers guidance on settling in a new country, or providing youth with educational opportunities, we are committed to building a thriving, resilient, and culturally rich community.

Our work is rooted in our core values of respect, cultural integrity, equity and justice, compassion, and intergenerational solidarity. We believe that by empowering individuals and nurturing strong community ties, we can foster a future where Black seniors, newcomers, and youth thrive together.
